Sir Nigel Gresley

Sir Nigel Gresley visited Pickering late this year. What an attraction that was. Sir Nigel is no stranger to Pickering and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) however last time it was here it had a blue-coloured livery. Now it was showing off its stunning Black coat.

Below are few clips merged together to show you how Sir Nigel Gresley train looked like, if you were not fortunate yourself to have seen it. The LNER 4498 A4 Class is a striking spectacle and has an amazing whistle sound along with a beautiful trademark design and its rounded front end nose.

I was fortunate enough to capture Sir Nigel leaving Pickering just out of the station and caught this amazing video. It was sending plumes of smoke out into the air as it moved along and just at the moment of videoing it as it went past – emitted lots of water vapour! So it looked like it was raining. That was an experience.

Take a look at the Discover Pickering Facebook page also, for a reel showing the A4 sound its whistle in the station. This reel has gone viral.

Summary

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR)  has plenty of Steam trains visit and run through the year, but there is something truly special about the Sir Nigel Gresley A4 train.

Is it because there are only 4 in the world? Or is it because when I was younger, used to be taken to the York Railway Museum by my Granddad, to see one of the other A4’s –  ‘Mallard’ A4 Pacific 4468?

Maybe it’s both, either way hope you enjoyed the video, and if you found it fun to watch let me know by subscribing, liking on YouTube which will also help support Discover Pickering. Thanks.
